A message to choirs participating in Mozart’s Mass in C Minor

Saturday March 16, 2024

Dear Petersfield Musical Festival Mozart singers,

Congratulations on a really exceptional performance that you gave of the wonderful Mozart – Mass in C Minor on Saturday night. I hope that in our rehearsals together we had homed in on what are the real essentials in the best levels of choral performance and I was really delighted with the focus and intensity of your singing in the concert.

There was strength and confidence but also some very pleasing subtlety and flexibility too, and I hope that you felt as fulfilled I did at the end of the evening.

We were supported by an excellent quartet of soloists, with Sofia Ticciati to the fore – the Et incarnatus soprano aria is one of the most challenging in the oratorio repertoire – and SPM really delivered, as I know they always do.

But you were the stars of the show, and I am especially grateful to your Musical Directors for the excellent preparation that they evidently did in your own rehearsals leading toward the Festival. Although not able to be with us, Paul Spicer was strongly there in spirit and he would have been very proud of what you achieved. Thank you so much and very best wishes for the rest of your singing season.
